CASUALTIES.
Otaki, Sept. 25. Harry Pratley, of Paraparamuni, was drowned while fishing. The body was recovered at 11-3 U last night. An inquest will be held tomorrow. Dunelin, Sept. 25. William John Martin, aged 33, committed suicide by hanging. Deceased, who leaves a wife and three children, had been despondent recently. Carterton, Sept. 25. Early on Saturday night a labourer named Clarence Ernest Watkins, agf)d 33. attempted suicide by cutting h’s throat with a razor in a boardinghouse. He appeared before justices this morning and was remanded to ap - pear on Monday. His injuries are not serious.
