NAPIER CENTRAL SCHOOL.

The Napier Central School Committee met last evening. Mr J. C. Thomson presided. The headmaster reported that the roll number was 665. The highest attendance liad been 631, ami the average 618. The junior school committee election had been held as usual and resulted in the return of five boys and four girls.

The test distances for swimming certificates had been held and resulted as follows: —Merit for one mile or over, two boys and 16 girls; proficiency, 220 yards to one mile, 36 boys and 26 girls; learners, 50 yards to 220 yards, 12 boys and two girls; a total of 50 boys and 43 girls. Being the last meeting, he wished to express his appreciation and graittude for the interest the committee had taken in the school. Messrs J. C. Thomson and J. R. Stevenson were appointed a visiting committee for April. Messrs Thomson, Hislop and Stevenson were appointed a sub-com-mittee to draw up the annual report for presentation to the householders’ meeting on April 24th. Mr E. Hyde reported that Messrs Thompson and Payne had kindly promised to hold a benefit, matinee for the school at an early date. The chairman then expressed his appreciation of the committee’s services during the past year, and commented upon their goodwill and unanimity towards him.
