WAIPUKURAU NEWS.

(Own Correspondent.) The Waipukurau Borough Council decided recently to purchase a new piano for the Town Hail to be used at a seperate hiring fee far special occasions only. A Bechstein piano was selected in Wellington and has been sent, subject to the Council being satisfied with the instrument. The Council has engaged Mr Harston, of Napier, to tune tho instrument and to give expert opinion on it. in the meantime a cupboard is being erected at the back of the stage for housing the piano. A recital is shortly to be held as the first effort to provide the cost of the instrument.

The Waipukurau Town Band is organising a concert and dance to be held in the Town Hall on Easter Monday night. A special effort is being made ta secure leading concert performers from Napier, Hastings and Dannevirke, in addition to local talent. A dance will follow the concert.

lhe lady players are again showing keenness for the game of hockey this season, and there was a muster of twenty-five at Pah Flat on Saturday afternoon, when training was initiated. It was a good start and promises well for the season’s activities. A number of new players were present. An effort is to he made to form a man’s chib and a meeting is called to be held in_ the Borough Council Chambers on Wednesday evening. Good support has been promised, and it is anticipated that two teams will be available fur the competition,
