NEAL AND CLOSE CUP.

FINAL IN B. GRADE.

WIN FOR HAWKE'S BAY

On Saturday the final lor the Neal and Close Cup, B Grade, was played at Waipukurau between the Hawke's Bay and Waipukurau Clubs. The visitors were entertained at dinner by the home club.

The winners were presented with the cup at the finish of the match, and Mr. H. H. Richards, on behalf of the Hawke’s Bay team, thanked the Waipukurau Club for their cordial reception, and he hoped that next year the Hawke’s Bay Club would be able to return the hospitality. Following are results, Hawke’s Bay players being mentioned first:—

The only third grade match played on Saturday was between Y.AI.C.A. and Hastings clubs at Hastings. Y.AI. C.A. won, and as a result the final will bo played between Hawke’s Bay and Waipukurau clubs. Alen’s Singles. Kirkpatrick beat Dairies, 9-6. Hyslop beat Williamson, 9-8. Rosenberg beat Ricketts, 9-4. Hay lost to McGregor. 8-9. Ladies’ Singles. Mrs. Brown lost to Miss Jordan

GIRLS’ SCHOOL MATCH. The AVoodford House tennis team visited the Napier Girls’ High School on Saturday to compete in the banner matches. "Napier won by 52 points. Following are the results, Napier names being mentioned first:— Singles. Aliss L. Hudson lost to Aliss E. Buchnaan, 41-43. Aliss F. Bennett beat Aliss Al. Ormond, 40-31. Aliss AV. Gibson lost to Aliss Nairn, 39-41. Aliss Al. Aitcheson beat Aliss G. Bane, 40-28. Doubles. Alisses L. Hudson and F, Bennett beat Alisses E. Buchanan and Ormond, 50-36.

INTERPROVINCIAL MATCH.

CANTERBURY v. WELLINGTON

Wellington, March 26.

An interprovincial lawn tennis match, Canterbury v. Wellington, was played on Saturday. The courts were heavy at tiie opening. The lafns improved with every minute of sunshine, out nevertheless were very dead. The teams were:—

The Canterbury team suffered from the fact that Ollivier and Greenwood, who will go to Australia, next month, with the New’ Zealand team, were unable t 4 make the trip, Wilding, Aitken and Clark were also noticeable absentees from the Canterbury team. Wellington won decisively, the scores being 23 matches to one, 43 sets to nine, and 260 games to 168. The following are the details. Wellington players being mentioned first:— Ladies’ Singles.
