TEAM FOR SYDNEY

Wellington, March 18E. L. Bartlett (Auckland) is unable to go to New South Wales with the New Zealand lawn tennis team and P. G. Greenwood (Christchurch) will fill the vacancy .taking the position of sixth man in the team. Mr. M. E. Denniston (chairman of the association), has been chosen manager of the team, Mr. J. C. Peacock captain of the men’s team and Miss Marjorie MacFarlane will lead the ladies’ team. NEAL AND CLOSE GAMES. A third grade competition in the Neal and Close games was played on Saturday when the Hawke’s Bay Club secured an easy win over Y.M.C.A. at tho former Club’s courts. Details werd as follows, H.B. being mentioned first:— Men’s Singles. Sommerville beat Dailies, 9 —6. Bowen beat Williamson, 9—4 Syme beat Ricketts, 9—3. Kerr beat McGregor, 9 —7. Men’s Doubles. Sommerville and Bowen beat Daines and Williamson, 9 —2. Syme and Kerr beat Ricketts and McGregor, 9 —7. Ladies' Singles. Mrs Anderson lost to Miss Jordan, I—<• Miss Wolstenholme beat Miss Williamson, 7—5. Miss Neill beat Miss Hannay, 7—3. Mrs Thompson beat Miss Stedman, Ladies’ Doubles.

Mrs Anderson and Miss Wolstenholme lost to Misses Jordan and Williamson, 6—7.

Miss Neill and Mrs Thompson beat Misses Hannay and Stedman, 7—2. Combined Doubles.

Sommerville and Mrs Anderson beat Williamson and Miss Jordan, 7 —3. Bowen and Miss Wolstenholme beat Daines and Miss Hannay, 7 —4. Syme and Miss Neill lost, to Ricketts and Miss Williamson, 3—7. Kerr and Mrs Thompson beat McGregor and Miss Stedman, 7—5. Hawke's Bay: 13 rubbers, 112 games. Y.M.C.A.: 3 rubbers, 74 games.

The second grade final which was to have been played at Waipukurau on Saturday between the Hawke’s Bay Club and Waipukurau, has been postponed indefinitely owing to the latter club being unable to assemble their team.
