PLUNKET SHIELD MATCHES. AUCKLAND BEAT OTAGO. AUCKLAND, .Tan. 3. . The Plunket Shield match. Otago versus Auckland was won by Auckland by 198 runs. Auckland scored 298 and 17S, and Otago 154 and 124. WIN FOR WELLINGTON. Wellington, Jan. 3. The I’lunket Shield match between Wellington and Canterbury was concluded to-day, resulting in the home team defeating the visitors by eight, wickets. The playing conditions improved considerably since the previous day, the wicket at midday being as hard and true as could be desired. Canterbury’s second innings closed for 127, Blunt 54, Sandman 18 and Grant 16. Brice two for 24, McGirr three for 47, Barclay two for 21 and Hiddleston two for 21 divided the wickets. Wellington were left to get 177 runs to win, and this they did with the loss of two wickets. Baker 63 not out, Lambert 60 not out and Hiddleston 41 were the run getters.

Resuming to-day, the Hawke Cup contest, Rangitikei in the second innings made 135 (Cameron 51, Broad, not out 20, R. McKay 18). This left Nelson 87 to get to win, which they did with the loss of two wickets (Neale, not out 42, Fletcher 30. AL Eden, not out 15). Bowling for Nelson the best were Newman, four for 31, Hull three for 36, and Neale two for 24. For Rangitikei R. McKay took one for 30 and C. Burgess one for 22. NEW SOUTH WALES TEACHERS. Wanganui, Jan. 3. The cricket match between the New South Wales teachers and Wanganui was drawn. Wanwain’i made 13.8 f Williams 50, Wood 38, Stapleton 14). The viators replied with 280 for 8 wickets (Golding. noF out. 126, O’Neil 1 60, Tavlor 22. Watson 19.) Holland took three wickets for 53 and Treadwell four for 78. VICTORIA v., SOUTH AUSTRALIA. Sydney, Jan. 3. South Australia in the first innings made 219 (Pcllew 41). McDonald took three wickets for 52. Following on South Australia lost six wicket's for 250 (Smith, not out. 85, Loveridge, not out. 83). Hartkonf took three wickets for 37. The attendance was small.

The annual match between the Napier and Hastings junior representatives was played on Nelson Park, Napier, yesterday, the game resulting in a win for Napier by 34 runs on the first innings.
