HASTINGS METHODIST CHURCH.

'l’lic quarterly meeting of the above church was held last evening, the Rev. A. Mi Bean presiding over a large attendance of officials. The membersljjp returns showed 322 senior and 93 ■ junior members, an increase on the I previous year of 12 and 8 respectively. Tho Sunday School showed a gratifyI ing inereiise of over 40 scholars for I. he year. A junior Christian Endeavour Society was started during the I quarter, and now has a membership of 49. 'Vhe Society meets on Sunday ! mornings under tho leadership of Mr. 1 George Wilson. The Morning Star Brigade has an average atendance of 75 children at the Sunday morning service. Tho Boys’Club has captured <’ interest of the boys, and the membership has substantially increased. During the quarter the school raised CIS Ils for tTie Masterton Children’s Homo, and the young people of the bible classes contributed a further £l2 10s for tho same, object. FaithI ful and successful work continues to be ; onried on in the bible classes and the I Wesley Guild. Having listened to the reports dealing with the work : amongst the youth of tho church, the ! quarterly meeting enthusiastically expressed its appreciation of tho services of all engaged in this department of tho work. was submitted by the stewards, Messrs J. B. Pickering and L. A. Denton, and showed that during tho quarter. for church purposes, missions, orphanage, and centenary thanksgiving fund, about £360 had been contributed. The credit balance on the circuit fund was increased f<> £42, and of this amount £3O was voted to the Trust Fund. On the motions of the circuit stewards, the Rev. A. Mcßean was unanimously invited to remain in the circuit for a fourth year, and cordially intimated his acceptance of tho ! invitation. Messrs J.B. Pickering and L. A. Denton were appointed to represent the circuit at the Hawke’s Bav-Manawatu District synod, to be held in Napier early next month. Messrs AV. H. Hord and P. Loach were appointed substitutes. To audit tho circuit accounts tho meeting appointed Messrs C. Newton and H. BrentonRule. All phases of the church’s work were considered, special stress 4 being laid upon the AVednesday evening service and its claims upon the congregation. It was reported that tho {hatter of the abolition of tho pew rents had been considered by the trustees, and that thev wore submitting the question to the members and seatholders.
