It is reported from Paris that Communist regiments are being despatched to the interior of Russia with orders to shoot the starving peasantry who are trying to cross from one Government to another A message from Riga states that Litvinoff has advised the American Commissioners that the Soviet will not allow any American who was in Russia during the revolution to accompany the relief organisations. It is contended that this decision is due to the fact that the Americans have seen and know too much and could not be deceived by the Bolsheviks. A PRINCESS’S ESCAPE. Princess Titiana Kourakin has arrived in Paris. She was imprisoned for three months in Russia and escaped by pretending marriage with a Bolshevik, paying him 12,000,000 roubles to play his part.—(Reuter). NANSEN COMMANDS U.S. RELIEF. COMMITTEE. A telegram from Reval states that Fridtjog Nansen, the famous Norwegian explorer, has been appointed head of the American relief committee in Russia.—(A. and N.Z.) BRITISH ACQUIRE CONCESSIONS. The “Politiken’s’’ Reval correspondent says that a British financial group interested in Vickers and Armstrong has practically completed arrangements to acquire a- concession in Russia’s largest dockyard at Nicolaeff. in the Biack Sea.
