RUGBY FOOTBALL.

HAVELOCK CLUB. The annual meeting of the Havelock North Football Club was held in the Town Board office last evening. There was a record attendance of about 50 persons, presided over by Mr P. J. Sefton, who was supported by Mr Bob Renata, of Waimarama. Mr Sefton apologised for the nonattendance of the president, Mr F. Mackenzie. The hon. secretary, Mr { Sidney J oil read the minutes of the < last meeting, which were confirmed. j The balance-sheet showed total re- i receipt of £39 2s, and expenditure £36 ■ 14s Bd, leaving a credit balance of £2 7s 4d. This was adopted. Mr Renata said the whole of the Waimarama players agreed to combine with Havelock. They were not in a position to carry on a separate club, mostly on the ground of expense. It cost them £134 last year to run their club. The election of officers resulted as follows :—Patron, Mr W. McKenzie ; president, Mr F. C. Mackenzie; vicepresidents, Messrs Renata and Henry Joll; club captain, Mr W. Nimon, hon. secs and treasu., Mr Sidney Joll ; management committee, Club Captain, the Secretary and Messrs S. Gillies, P. J. Sefton and F. JLiley, the last three by ballot. Mr Sefton thanked Mr J. Joll for his enthusiastic work as delegate last year on the Hastings Rugby SubUnion. It was decided that all intending players must hand in their names to the hon. secretary by Saturday, March 12th. The following were elected delegates to the Hastings Rugby Sub-Union:— Messrs John Joll and P. J. Sefton. Mr W. Nimon complimented Mr de Castro on his work as captain of the Hawke’s Bay representatives both at home and on tour, and proposed that he be elected a life member of the Havelock Football Club. Mr Renata seconded and this was carried with much applause. Mr de Castro returned his thanks for the honour accorded him. The colours of the combined club will be blue and black, and the subscription was fixed as follows: Seniors 10s, juniors ss; other players 2s 6d, hon. members ss. The opening day of the season was fixed for Saturday, March 19th on the Domain at 2.30 p.m. After a vote of thanks to the chairman, the meeting closed. The chairman at last night’s meeting of the Havelock North Football Club announced that Mr de Castro had kindly offered to donate a football fo” the junior team, and a medal for the best player in the third grade team. The offer was gratefully accepted.
