BAND CONTEST.
Danncvirke, Feb. 16. The North Island Brass Band B Grade Contest was continued to-day, the military two-step competition being decided this afternoon in the presence of a big crowd of spectators, with the following result:—Marton, 251| points, 1; Dannevirke, 251> points, 2; Palmerston North, 246 A, 3; Hamilton, 2454. 4; Temperance Guards, Auckland, 2371, 5; Hastings, 2335, fi,’ Auckland Defence. 2274, 7. I At the annual meeting of the North Island Brass Bands Association thanks was expressed to Dannevirke for ta.kI ing up the running of the contest at I such short notice. Twenty-five bands are now affiliated. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £6l 19/3.
| The election of officers resulted: — I President, Mr. R. L. Cohen; vice-presi-I dents, about 40, including Sir George Hunter, M.P., Mr. A. McNicoll, MJ*., and Mr. G. I. Anderson, Mayor of Dannevirke; treasurer, Mr. J. J. Meule (Wanganui); secretary, Mr. F. G. Seddon (Wanganui); executive,. Sergt.- , Major Anderson (Wanganui), Messrs. I Wansborough (Marton), Herd (Wel’lington), Jupp (Wellington), Holben | (Palmerston North), Trussell (Wanga- ■ nui), Williamson (Auckland), McConnell (Napier). C. Humphries (Wanganui), and Cattley (New Plymouth). I Applications were received from New Plymouth, Wellington, Whangarei, and I Auckland for the next contest. A ballot between Wellington and Auckland resulted in Wellington being chosen. The advisability of holding one contest alternatively in the North and South Islands was left to the executive to di* cuss and confer with the South Island Associatic n. ANOTHER THIRD FOR HASTINGS.
