THE PICTURE HOUSES.

EVERYBODY’S. There was a crowded house at Everybody Theatre, Hastings, last evening to see Bert Lytell in “Alias Jimmy Valentine.” His impersonation was perfect, and his admirers—especially the ladies—arc enthusiastice over him. The picture is a tremendous drama of a convict who reformed through the love of a woman. For sheer dramatic power the picture is unsurpassed. As a. fitting support to a great picture, Harold Lloyd and Bebc Daniels w'ere starred in “The Rajah,” a hilarious comedy, and a further chapter of the serial “The Great Gamble,” added further laurels to the programme. Everybody’s orchestra rendered delightful music. The same series will be screened again this evening. MUNICIPAL. Everyone who has given the subject a thought knows that there is only one brief step from humour to pathos. A striking example of the fact is contain cd in “Blind Husbands,” the Universal photodrama of the Alps mountains, which was screened at the Hastings Municipal Theatre last evening, and which was acclaimed by the large audience as a master production and a perfect photoplay. The photography is on a magnificent scale and the scenery of remarkable splendour. The story is extremely interesting and holding, there being not a dull moment throughout the screening. Erich Stroheim, the author, has undoubtedly produced something that has not been seen before on the csreen, and those who witnessed the performance last evening will long remember 1 ‘Blind Husbands.” In the cast is seen Francelia Billington, as Mrs. Armstrong; Sam DeGrasse as Dr. Armstrong, an eminent American surgeon, sojourning in the Alps; and T. H. Gibson-Gow-land, as “Silent Sepp,” a world-famous mountain guide, who lost his life in trying to save a party of tourists near Cortina D’Ampezzo. An additional attraction was “Even as Eve,” a charming story by Robert Chambers, and starring Grace Darling. This inimitable programme will be screened again this evening and we advise everyone to see it.
