MISCELLANEOUS CABLES.

| Some of the secondary schools in J Egypt recently cabled as closed have re-opened, numerous parents and students giving the guarantees required by the Government that they will not be used for political purposes. Since the opening of civil aviation in Mav. 1919, British aircraft have flown 1.556,000 miles and carried 106.712 passengers. There have been 48 accidents, of which 20 involved injury to the personnel. The rate of passengers killed was .10 per 1,000 carried. A distance of 33,100 miles was flown per accident. The "Daily Chronicle’’ (London) states that owing to the continuance of the trade slump the Government has dratted a bill extending for a further 15 weeks the unemployment insurance benefits now limited to 15 weeks, as many thousands will soon cense to be entitled to the existing benefits. The Government also proposes a weekly , benefit of a pound instead of 15/-. Owing to competition, rates for steerage passengers from Australian ports to Hongkong dropped from £2O to £4 10/-, with a likelihood of a further reduction.
