THE ARMS ACT.
DIFFICULTIES MENTIONED I POSITION OF tHE COUNTRY 1 STOREKEEPER. The. new Arms Act was under brief discussion at a meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce on Monday. The discussion arose out of a letter from Messrs W. M. Bannatyne and Company, which said the dealers, including country storekeepers, were compelled to obtain a permit to support each order they might place for explosives. It was suggested that the purpose of ' the legislation would be Jtilly met were the police given authority to grant a license to deal in such goods during, say, the ensuing six or twelve months, in lieu of separate permits. Mr H. D. Bennet said the letter raised an important subject, and the Act was having a serious (’fleet on the country storekeeper. It was resolved - to send the matter of the letter forward to the correct auth o r i ty. • •
