RAIL FARES IN BRITAIN.
INCREASES STRONGLY OPPOSED. AUGUST HOLIDAY TRAFFIC. 'Received 21, 8.45 a.m.) Lpndoil, July 20Agitation against increased railwayfares is spreading. Protest meetings have been held at seaside resorts, also by metropolitan commoners, who especially complained against the increase checking the August bank holiday traffic. The pressure on the Government is so strong that it will likely defer the date of the increase from August Ist to September Ist. It is estimated that the postponement will cost £3,000,000—(A. and N.Z.) REVERSION TO PRB ATE CONTROL. London, July SO. In the House of Commons, Mr Bonar law said it was the policy of the Government to hand back tho railways to the companies at the expiraion_ of the present agreement. —JA. and N.Z.)
