MEAT EXPORT.
A COMMITTEE APPOINTED. TO DEAL FULLY WITH QUESTION. Wellington, May 28. x The conference of producers and freezing companies to deal with problems of the meat export trade of the future concluded to-day. A number of resolutions were agreed to by the conference, but these are to be submitted to the Government before being niade public. It was discovered at the conference that any attempt to deal with the complex questions involved by such a large meeting was doomed to failure, and it j was purely as the result of this discov- ' ery that the decision was made to set | up a committee to deal with detail ana j to submit a scheme to the Government setting out the requirements of farmers and companies. It was decided that the committee should' consist of ten members, four to be nominated by the producers, two by the freezing companies, two by the Government, and two representatives of banking institutions' It is understood that one»of the Government nominees is to be a .producer. The order of reference for the committee is not yet available. It will be made wide enough to permit the committee to deal fully with all problems facing the meat industry at present. THANKS TO PREMIER.
At the meeting of the Conference on Thursday, Mr. E. McGregor proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. Massey for the ‘ ‘bulldog way he had hammered at the Imperial Government.” We had come out of the 'war well, and he thought we would come out of the aftermath well, too.
Mr. J. S. Jessop seconded the motion and said that Mr. Massey had dissipated the idea that the Government had bungled the producers’ interests. The motion was. carried. *
Mr. Massey: I thank.you. Nothing we can do to heln the ennntry will be left undone.
