(Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the above was held on Friday, February 6th. Present: Crs. L. McKay (chair), J. Holden, W. Hobson, L. Glenny, A. Cook. A l . Kerr. A. Robottom. CORRESPONDENCE.

Becket and Cato wrote re stagnant water on Takapau section. — Received.

Hugh W. White, Sherwood, wrote re unmetalled portion of road. — Matter to be attended to.

H. D. Hardy complained of straying stock. —Previous resolution to be enforced that upon second offence owners to be prosecuted. From N.Z. Association of British Manufacturers asking for preference for British goods.—Councillors were strongly in sympathy with the request of the association. Department of Internal Affairs notified that Maori dogs- must be registered. H. A. Standidge asked for groyne at Fairfield crossing.—Left in hands of Cr. Glenny and overseer. E. Worsnop enclosed petition of ratepayers re Papa Creek bridge.— It was decided to erect the new bridge in old position at a cost estimated at £l2OO against £3OOO for site applied for. Public Works Department notified grant for Gwavas road of £5OO, £ for £. —Received. Arch E. H. Thomson asked for reinstatement as linesman. —Received. Dannevirke County Council asked that the matter of the Manawatu bridge be pushed forward.—lt w’as decided to expedite matters in connection with this and also the Makaretu bridge. G. Hunter, M.P., also wrote re the bridge. —Received. , Westport District Citizens’ Committee, re coal shortage.—The council were unanimous that members of Parliament visit the district of Westport with a view of working what is considered an undeveloped coalfield of considerable dimensions and the member for th(s district be written to to that effect. . . Waipawa Technical Association asked for grant.—Usual grant of £5 voted. * AV. E. Reid, Onga Onga, asked for telephone connection.—Granted. Kiwitea County Council wrote re import duty on dump trucks. —Cotincil supported the resolution in favour of an exemption of duty on trucks being advocated. Petitioners, 1 iwavas ibettlement, urged that the £5OO allocated by the Government to improve the road through the settlement be spent. Received. OVERSEER’S REPORT. The following are the principal works authorised arising out of the overseer’s report: —A large wooden culvert near Anderson’s on the Otane Pukehou road is to be replaced by 3&-inch concrete pipes, and a small | culvert at the round hill in the same locality to be replaced with 12-inch pipes. , i GENERAL.

The ranger. J. E. Parkinson, reported on the stock impounded for fanuary.—Received. J. Scarrott offered £45 and collars gratis for the right to collect the dog tax for the ensuing year.—Offer accepted. , The grader is to be used on the Takapau-Waipukurau road ax soon as possible. . It was decided to erect a bin between Takapau and Ashley Clinton. It was decided to call tenders for painting and papering of a dwelling at Takapau acquired for a doctor s residence. The overseer reported that the man appointed for bridge work was very competent and found tools for hiniself and others employed by him, and it was decided to pay him a salary of £6 per week. The pay sheet was £1409 2/2, and the next meeting was arranged for Friday, March sth.
