ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

WOMAN WALKS INTO SEA. NEAR MARINE PARADE. At the Napier Police Court this morning, before Mr. R. W. Dyer, S.M., a middle aged woman named Florence Harvey was charged that she did, on February sth, attempt Xo commit sui;ide by walking into the sea on the sea front at Napier. Accused pleaded not guilty. Senior Sergeant Eales stated that the woman had gone into the sea and had been brought out by Mrs. M. Yeo and another lady. She was then left by herself, and shortly afterwards went into the water again and was pulled out by other people. She was fully dressed. Sergeant Cox had been communicated with and had proceeded to the scene. He had to hold' her to prevent her going, to the water. In evidence Sergeant Cox said accused had called him a coward for preventing her “ending her troubles of this world.” She said that she had only been in New Zealand six mouths and her husband was the cause of her trouble as he did not know how to treat a woman. Accused,' in the witness box, said she did not understand the surf, and it knocked her down. She went in the second timo to recover a black comb. His Worship called the husband of accused who stated that his wife was excitable, probably the result of highlystrung nerves. She had been in NewZealand about seven years. The doctor said she was in normal condition. His Worship said he would convict accused who had done a foolish thing. If she had troubles she should stand up to them. Accused said she had not attempted suicide. His Worship convicted and ordered accu.ed to come up for sentence whvr. called ugon.
