CARNIVAL AT HASTINGS. The swimming carnival, in aid o! funds to send reps to the New Zealand Championships, at Aucklanu, came off in the Maddison Swimming baths, Hastings, Jast night, under the control of the Heretaunga Swimming Club. An exhibition of the procedure to' be followed in restoring animation in the apparently drowned, and a land demonstration in life-saving were given, the drills being followed with marked Interest by the assembled spectators. Messrs A. E. Smith, A- W. H.' King and Williams'Aeted as judges of swimming, Mr. T. S. Roulston judged the diving, Mr. J. D. Donbvan acted as starter, and Mr. A. "A. George - was referee. Messrs A.
