SUGAR.
GOVERNMENT CONTROLLER. APPOINTED. Auckland, Jan. 4. The Prime Minister stated to-day that by arrangement with the head office of the Colonial Sugar Company, an officer has been appointed by the Board of Trade to work in conjunction with the company’s Auckland manager in connection with the distribution of sugar as from to-morrow. The proposed allocation of sugar will be on a per, centage basis, worked on the average requirements covering the last three years. The distribution will be as follows :—
(1) Household requirements. (2) Essential industries, The officer' appointed for the purpose will assume responsibility for a fair allocation of the sugar available. The Colonial Sugar, company anticipates being able to. supply normal demand from now onwards provided there is no interruption to shipping.
