As anticipated, the final figures for the Brisbane seat in the House of Representatives ousts Findlayson, a prominent Labourite, in favour of Cameron, Nationalist. Another Nationalist gain is announced at Ballarat, where Major Kirby defeated the Labour member, McGrath, by a. single vote. This makes the state of the parties: Nationalist 35, Labour 26, Farmers 14. BALLARAT ELECTION. LABOUR PARTY APPEALS. (Received 5, 9.45 a.m.) Sydney, Jan. 5. The Labour Party has decided to appeal to the High Court in connection with the Ballarat election. —(A. and N.Z.) STATE GOVERNORS’ ABOLITION. VICTORIAN ASSEMBLY TO DISCUSS. Melbourne, Jan. 5. Hon. H. The Seamen’s Union has deeded that if the shipowners attempt to replace the striking engineers v.'th cutside engineers they will support the engineers. BREWERS’ STRIKE. Sydney,’ Jan- 4. A mass meeting of brewery worker strikers resolved to resume work on Monday with the exception of the enginednvers and coopers, who are de* termined to press their claims. CYCLONE IN QUEENSLAND. Brisbane, Jan. 5. There have been cyclonic storms accompanied by heavy hail and ram in many parts of the State, with one fatality at Buhdaberg, a boy being crushed by the wreckage of a shop.— (A. and N.Z.) NOTES FROM VARIOUS STATES. Though the New South Wales revenue for the half-year increases by over £1,714,000, the expenditure exceeded the revenue by £200,000.
