MAY DAY RIOTS IN PARIS.
Paris, May J. Infantry and cavalry reinforced the gendarmerie to prevent May Day demonstrators marching to the Place de la Concorde. The firemen turned the fire-hoses on the crowd, who twice broke the military cordons. Mani- heads were broken in baton charges. Another riotous crowd gathered in the Place de Longera, shouting “Down with the Government.” The outlook was uglier nt nightfall. London. May 2. The Paris riots continued at night. The demonstrators attempted to barricade the streets, but. ruounteu troons charged the mob. A great number were wounded, including Deputy Cachin. editor of “L’Humanibe,” and a Municipal Councillor. -—(A, and N.Z.)
