LIQUOR EMBARGO.
TWO WELLINGTON CONVICTIONS. Wellington, -March 21. Some weeks ago informations were laid against a licensee alleging that, he sold, or permitted to he sold, liquor during the epidemic period, when the sale of liquor was prohihit < d by order 'I of the Public Health. S.M., to-d.iy i; Mr. Frazer said the only point in his • mind when he dismissed the previous i informations was that there was thru no evidence that the Minister's approi al had been given. But in the present , case this necessary evidence had been . given. The Act. ho considered, gave tile authotitie.s ample power to prohibit the sale of liquor, and the stopping of the sale of alcohol could not he held to lie unreasonable. Had any other persons than lodgers been supplied he would have imposed a stiff penalty. The licensee had not been pre.-ent when the offences were committed, but he considered he had not exercised the care he should have done in the i-.v--agenivtit of the lintel on the date tn quc.-t.ioti. Each defendant was fined £2 and costs.
