[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir, —As quite a number of people have asked me to-day why I resigned from the above committee, 1 have decided in justice to those who were giving me such valuable encouragement, to make the facts known, and to also put myself right. When my proposal came before the council I made it quite clear that my object was not for personal gain, but to see a lasting memorial to our dead soldiers. Also at the public meeting I did the same and named the owners of the proposed sites who could be referred to if anyone still doubted the honestv of mv intentions.
