PRESBYTERIANISM.

CHRISTCHURCH RESOLUTIONS Christchurch, Aug. 13. The Christchurch Presbytery today passed a resolution that the proposal to exempt alcohol for church communion purposes in the petition for the suggested legislation to be presented to Parliament next session was not required, so far as the Presbyterian Church was concerned. The Presbytery passed a resolution expressing sympathy with the petition in connection with prohibition on the lines of the ; Efficency Board’s proposals, and urging people to sign the petition. The following motion was carried:—“That the Presbytery, while strongly favouring all legitimate cndea' curs to provide trench comforts for soldiers at the front, protests against those patriotic schemes being made a cover for gambling or the mortgaging of the day of rest with non-sacred or semi-sacred Sunday concerts.” UNITY OF CHURCHES URGED. Auckland, Aug. 14. The Auckland Presbytery endorsed by 26 votes to 6 an overture to the Assembly urging that the will of the Church be ascertained towards the unity of Presbyterian, Congregational, Methodist, and kindred Churches. A prolonged discussion preceded the carrying of the overture.
