CONSUMPTIVE SOLDIERS.

Dunedin. Feb. 7. In an interview flic Hon. G. W. Russell stated that a. normal number of soldiers were returning to New Zealand suffering from consumption, but unfortunately there were many instances where consumption had developed after the men had returned. The Government was now dealing, in convalescent homes and hospitals, vyith nearly as many discharged soldiers as undischarged. The number ;i}>plying for treatment in the institutions as discharged soldiers w f as steadily increasing. Until the presnre of consumptive became greater the Government was not likely to increase the institutions now under its control. There would probably be two institutions in the South Island, one in Canterbury and tiie other in Central Otago.
