CENTRAL A. AND P. SHOW.

(Waipukurau Correspondent.)

Waipukuraii has two high days per year, and yesterday was one of them. It’s pleasantly situated racecourse was the show centre for the products of the farms and homes of Central Hawke’s Bay. The attendance exceeded last year, and so did the number of exhibits, and their quality was of general high average. The weather conditions were perfect. The courteous secretary, Mr. J. W. Elliott, bad his work eased I by an army of workers, and the funcI tion can be briefly described as a ! thorough success. And yet when the i fex-tility and extent of the area is i considered, as well as the skill of both I those who work in and out of doors, tbo success attained by the society has only touched the fringe of possibilities. The principal industry of the district, that of sheep raising, had not the representation its extent deserved, though in fat classes there was good competition. The variety of viands and the attentive service given by tbo ladies to those who sought refreshments, was an outstanding feature of the day’s enjoyment. Mr. Cyril YYi,son acted as secretary to the ladies’ committee. The ranks of the Town Band were augmented by the. members ;of the. Waipawa Band Society, and | under the baton of Bandmaster Young a pleasing programme, was rendered. Among the trade displays Mr. J. Winlove, and the Hauke’s Bay Farmers’ were the largest exhibitors. A pet. lamb was son by Miss (jusie, and the efforts of its donor, Mr. R. R. Harris, produced £ll 3.'- for the patriotic funds. The side shows added to the gaiety of the gathering. The large I gifts'of stock are being auctioned today., The proceeds of the sale, as well as the nett proceeds of the show will provide ' ery mat erial he.p to the patriotic funds, and praise is deserved by all who so heartily worked and gave lor such a cause.
