STATE MATERNITY HOMES.
EXTENSION OF THEIR USEFULNESS. Christchurch, Nov. 17. The Hon. G. IV. Russell stated to-day that the Government was extending the facilities for women to 'enter State maternity hospitals, and also arranging for the re-organisa-tion of the Plunket Societies with the view of doing all in the power of the State to look after the mothers and children of the race, the flower of which had been depleted by the war. His proposals include the allowing of women whose husbands earn over £4 per week to enter hospitals if there are several children in the family, also the providing of advice from doctors to expectant mothers. Dr. Truby King and his wife will tour the North and give lectures.
