FAMOUS RUSSIAN’S MESSAGE TO NEW ZEALAND. GENERAL BRUSSILOW’S CONFIDENCE. A most interesting autograph tetter from the dashing Russian leader Genral Brussilow (more commonly spelt Brusiloff), has been received by Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., in reply to one sent by him some months ago. “Having read 7 in French official papers that General Pau, for the Allied armies received a promise from Rumania through Bratiano and Jonescu, that- one of the conditions of her intervention in the occupation, by Russia, of Czernowitz and Bukowina, and realising as I do that your army 7, on account of the season of the year and the state of the ground cannot move till June I send you good wishes from New Zealanders, and wish you success in your offensive on the East, and hope that such offensive will be the turning point in the great war. New Zealand is much stirred by the wonderful recuperative powers of your country 7 and the munitionment of y 7 our army 7, and the way in which Russia has become a powerful and important army, working the cause of humanity.” The reply from the now-famous soldier is as follows: — 14th September, 1916. “Dear Sir,—Reading your tetter, I appreciate the sincere sympathy of New Zealanders for Russia and her army. Kindly testify to your countrymen that we draw new strength for the annihilation of the enemy from the feelings you express in your kindly tetter. We all believe in final victofy.—l am, sir, respectfully 7 yours, A. Brussilow.”
