H.B. WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION.
WAIPUKURAU BRANCH. A meeting of the above was held on Wednesday. In the temporary absence of the Mayor, Mr. McKay was voted to the chair. Also present : Mesdames Reid and Cham i bers; Messrs. C. N. B. Williams, Langridge, E. Gilbertson, F. B Curd and the secretary (Mr. Bollons). As there appeared no possibility of securing early help* from the Defence Department in the matter of compiling a list of returned soldiers who enlisted in Waipukurau district, Mr. Langridge moved, “That the various societies in the district be asked to supply the names of men who have enlisted from their respective centres, together with their number of the reinforcement of which they are or were members.” Seconded by Mr. Williams and carried. RELIEF. The case of the returned soldier who wished to inspect land and attend the ballot for same was considered. The applicant had received assistance and his board was being paid by the Waipukurau society.— It was resolved, as the applicant’s [health was bad, to have him medically examined at the expense of the branch, with a view to recommending the. provincial executive to claim a pension and medical treatment for him. The recommendation of the 'Waipukurau Society in respect to an applicant who desired assistance to qualify' for a land ballot, that the relations of the applicant be asked to employ him to see whether he' was capable of standing the work was adopted. The application from a returned trooper for a loan to pay the first half-year’s rent for his section was referred to the provincial executive with a favourable recommendation. Only' one account of 9 6 was presented. It was authorised for payment.
