HASTINGS BOROUGH VALUATIONS.

[to the editor.] Sir,—l have lately received my land tax valuation papers for . my Hastings property. The whole ot the land of the borough has been revalued, and this property of mine has been revalued at 50 per cent, over what it was previously, and the rates have gone up over 200 per cent. —rather a big jump. Now I would like to know, if it is not giving you too much trouble, what the value of the borough for rateable taxation was last year, and what it is this year, for if my rates have gone up 200 per cent, for land on the outskirts of the borough, and the land valuation at 50 per cent., surely in all justice the land in or near the centre of the town should have gone up more in value. It would be interesting to see the present valuation as compared with past valuations in the different parts of the borough. If it is -necessary to raise more revenue by extra valuation and rates, well and good, and we must all bear our share, only we like to see that we are all treated alike. For this reason I should like to know if we have been, and therefore ask for your valuable assistance to efflighten me on the subject, for an editor is supposed to have all information at his fingers ends. —I am, etc., ALF. T. DANVERS.
