HASTINGS NATIONAL RESERVE.

The weekly parade was held on Thursday night as usual, there 1 icing a very satisfactory muster o[ all ranks. A further course < 1 guard mounting was gone through, and the men showed marked nn- [ provement in the work. They are all enthusiastic, and trying to “do i their bit” in their best style. I After parade a meeting was held to report progress about the arrangements in connection with the “Men’s National Reserve' Red Cross Day on Saturday, November 11th. The Reserve is out to ‘‘do its bit” in another direcion, by assisting in the working of the Red Cross shop, and the men are all keen to make the day a successful one. A large number of contributions have been promised, but all who are willing to assist by sending donations of anything of a saleable, nature, will kindly note that their gifts will be thankfully received. The men have secured the rooms behind Pratt’s bookstore, under the Heretaunga Club rooms. Prizes are to be given for various competitions in the cooking line, and all who are interested will please watch the advertising columns of the “Tribune” next week. Several valuable prizes have been given for calculating competitions, particulars of which will also appear later.
