Mr. Frederic Coudert, a leading international lawyer, who has visited the western front, says that England reaches the zenith of her preparations in the spring, when she will have five times the present number of guns. SIR DOUGLAS HAIG’S REPORTS. London, November 1. Sir Douglas Haig reports:—-We bombarded the enemy lines in the neighbourhood of Hohenzollern and the La Bassee Canal. There was considerable hostile shelling at Hebuterne, also around the Stuff and Schwaben redoubts and Regina trench. [REUTER’S TELEGRAM.] (Received 2, 11.5 a.m.) London, November 1. The French official report says: —Northwards of the Somme, we made new progress north-east of Les Boeufs. This morning the Germans violently attacked Sailly Saillisel, but all attempts were broken by our fire, and the Germans were driven back to the trenches from whence they departed.
