TARADALE.

(Own Corre sp o nd ent.) The ladies of the Taradale Wounded Soldiers’ Committee met on Tuesday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. R. Glenny, president of the committee, to pack goods to be delivered to Miss Mackenzie, London. The following is the list of articles packed in the case : —49 prs. socks, 2 Daiaciavas, 4 prs. mittens, 1 pr. blankets, 1 scarf, 2 old sheets, 1 doz towels, 3) handkerchiefs, 4 books, 25 undershirts, 29 pyjamas, 36 tins lollies, 25 tins cocoa, 14 writing companions, 10 writing pads, 275 envelopes, 2 pkts, cards, 1 cribbage board, 2 cakes carbolic soap, 2 tins tooth paste, 1 shaving brush, 4 tooth brushes, 2 knives, 2 forks, 3 spoons, 1 comb, Cl pipes, 36 walking sticks. The committee also received the following articles from Puketapu:—4B prs. socks, 1 pr. hand-knitted socks, Mrs. Daley. From the school child; ren: 1 scarf, 2 prs. mittens, 6 khaki handkerchiefs: 1 pr. blankets, Mrs. Ross, Willow Flat; old liner, Mrs. Howard, senr., Taradale. Mr. Larsen, Town Clerk, has returned from a short holiday to the country. Mr. J. Bicknell, Puketapu had a very bad turn again on Saturday, and his condition is causing his friends grave anxiety. We had quite a cold blast on Tuesday, the weather being very cold and unseasonable; it will also affect the blooms for the forthcoming flower show in connection with the Presbyterian Church, which is to be held during this month. A painful accident occurred, to Mr. Rowland’s son, Leslie, on Tuesday. While playing with a lawn mower, the little fellow had the misfortune to catch his finger in the machine, which had to be amputated at the first joint. The little sufferer is going on as well as can be expected. Mrs. Dews and family leave this week on a visit to Mohaka. Mr. and Mrs. F. Maidens are visiting Auckland and Rotorua. Mr. Winston is the guest of Rev. and Mrs. A. P. Clarke, at the Vicarage. Bales of wool continue to pass through Taradale, motor lorries! making their daily trips.
