Mr. C. J. Nathan, of Waikare, arrived in Napier by special car to-day. Mrs. J. Parker left Hastings for Palmerston North this morning. The Hon. Dr. Pomare and secretary from 'Wellington, are in Napier on a visit. Mr. Ernest Wall, Railway road, left. Hastings yesterday to attend the Palmerston North Show. Mr. and Mrs. W. Harvey left Napier by mail train to-day on a visit to Palmerston North. Mrs. Keith White, Porangahau; Mrs. Campbell and Miss Hallett, Havelock North ; and Mrs. Sidey are among the visitors to Napier. Mr. and Mrs. A. Luttrell left Hastings for Christchurch this morning. Mr. G. P. Donnelly left for South by the mail train leaving Hastings this morning. Mr. S. Blackstock, a well-known Queensland squatter, was a passenger by the Makura, accompanied by his wife. Mr. A. Tomlinson, foreman of Limited nurseries, left Hastings for North of Auckland this morning. Lieutenant. Lee, late of the Napier Defence Office, who has now been appointed to a commission in the 23rd Reinforcements, is at present, spending a short leave in Napier. At the Napier Cathedral yesterday Miss D. Gilbertson, daughter of Mr. E. Gilbertson, of Waipukurau, was married to Mr. X. Lethbridge, now of Compton road. Napier. 'The Rev. Canon Mayne officiated. James Hunter Hall, To Ante, left Hastings this morning for camp to join the 22nd Reinforcements. He was presented with his badge and kit by His Worship the Mayor, at. ’Vo station. Thi- completes the Hawke’s Bay district's quota for the 22nd Reinforcements. Mr. Harold Beauchamp, chairman of the Rank of New Zealand, is expected back from Canada and the United States in about a fortnight. Mr. Richard Teeee, actuary for the Australian Mutual Provident Society, arrived by* the Makura on a visit to the Dominion. He is accompanied by three of his daughters. Mr A. 11. Ferguson, County Clerk accompanied by Mrs. Ferguson, left. Xapier by the mail train to-day ou a holiday visit to Auckland. Mr. J. H. Sheath, Chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, left by the Monowai last night, for Gisborne.

Mra. G. Plcstcd, who has been in a very serious condition in the Napier Hospital, is now reported to bo making slight- improvement. Master Ernest Arroi, of the Port School, who won the Hawke’s Bay junior championship at the recent. Labour Day Sports, and was runnerup in the 440 yards championship, was presented with tns medals at school yesterday. Mrs. R. W. Hansard, and Miss Doris Hansard, are at present visiting Auckland, where they will attend the marriage of Mr. Guy Hansard. The latter who has been accepted for the Motor Boat Patrol Service, proceeds Home almost immediately. Private Percy Sweetapple, of the 19th Reinforcements, who has been spending final leave in Napier was, prior to his return to camp, met by nis many friends at his father’s residence, Bluff Hill, and made the recipient of several valuable presents.

Mr. D. Carjuth, who hais been on the staff of our evening contemporary for over thirty years, and has now severed his connection with that Company, was yesterday met by the staff and presented with a purse of sovereigns as an expression of the high esteem in which the recipient was held. When the first- volunteers for the Motor Boat Patrol were about to leave 1 Wellington it, was found there wore two vacancies, and these were filled trom Auckland. One was Mr. T. M. Alexander, solicitor, and the other, Mr. N. E. Blomfield, son of Mr. E. C. Blomfield, of the firm of Parr and Blomfield. Another son of Mr. Blomfield’s left as senior lieutenant with forces from Australia, and is now serving in France The teachers and scholars of the Hastings North School assembled on Thursday afternoon to say goodbye to Miss N. Tuohy, who is severing her connection with the staff in order to take up a new position atClive. Mr. W. T. Chaplin, in appropriate manner expressed regret at_ losing the capable assistance of Miss Tuohy. and on behalf of the teachers and scholars, handed her a handsome manicure outfit and silver scent bottle as a token of appreciation. Miss Tunny feeling responded.
