NEW SALEYARDS.

CLIVE GRANGE. OFFICIAL OPENING. The formal opening of the Clive’ Grange Saleyard Company’s new yards, took place yesterday. There was a large gathering of settlers present and an unusually heavy yarding of stock. The question of establishing saleyards in this prosperous farming suburb was first mooted by the Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Union, and recognising the great advantages to be gained by the establishment of yards in this locality, the Clive branch of the Farmers’ Union took up the matter enthusiastically, with the result that a company was formed and to-day one of the finest equipped yards in Hawke’s Bay is the result. The land, three and a half acres in extent, was purchased from Mr. H. lan Simson, and is alongside the main road, situated in picturesque surroundings, and splendidly sheltered. If the first yarding is any indication to go by, the company should have a most successful career, besides supplying a long felt want to farmers. Mr. H. lan Simson, chairman of the Company, delivered a brief introductory address, in which he said he was pleased to see such a large gathering, and a big yarding, which augured well for the future success of the new company. The honour of performing the opening ceremony was allotted to Mr. A. Reid, who, in a happy speech declared the yards open, and wished the company every success. I The sale was then commenced, I when there was spirited bidding for the various lines offered, sheep es-l pecially bringing high prices, sever-, al lines realising as high as 35/-. Shorn sheep advanced 3/- to 4/-, consequent on the increased price of seven-eights of a penny fixed by the Imnerial Government. I There" was a large yarding of cattle and top prices were realised. Among the sales during the afternoon, was Mr. Moore’s dairy herd, for which satisfactory prices were obtained. I Two horses were sold for £25 and the proceeds divided equally between the Red Cross Society and the Saleyards Company. j Prior to the sale starting, a vote! of thanks, on the motion of Mr. I Walter Raymond, was passed to Mrs H. lan Simson for providing lunch and refreshments. On the grounds purchased by the company is erected a smaU bunga-' low dwelling which will be utilised for the use of stock. agents and for the holding of meetings. Outside buyers were strongly represented at the sale.
