NAPIER BOROUGH COUNCIL.

ORDINARY MEETING. The Napier Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor i (Mr. J. V. Brown, M.P.), Crs. W. , Plowman. J. H. Sheath, P. Ashcroft iT. R. Kessell, G. IV. Venables, A. McCarthy. H. Hill, W. J. McGrath, R. C. Runicinian and A. 1.. Beattie. I It was decided to advise the N.Z. ■ Picture Supplies Ltd., that it is i the intention of the Council to call i tenders for leasing the Municipal 1 Theatre for pictures. I A letter from the Hastings Bor- ! ough Council, suggesting that this | Council should join in taking a tally of traffic over the Manawatu , < Jorge and bridge, was received. The Mayor said that the Commis- • sioner had indicated at the West- : shore bridge inquiry that Havelock North would not be brought in and , it was therefor unlikely that Napier ! would be asked to join in the Manawatu affair. The Minister of Public Health advised that- he had no officer to re- ■ port on the Napier South drainage j scheme.—-Received. The request of the Rev Father . O’Sullivan, for a portion of the new ■ cemetery to be set aside for Catholics. was agreed to. It was decided to ask the Napier City Baud, which desired the Council to meet a deputation, to make ' their requests in writing. The Christmas Gifts Committee ! was granted a rebate on the charges for McLean Park and the theatre. A .similar rebate was granted to the Maori Entertainers. It was decided to reconsider the wages paid to the Council’s staff with the idea of making increases on a graduated scale. After some discussion it was decided to allow Mr. Frederickson to erect a building on the site he leases ! at Market Reserve, the Council to i be committed up to the £5OO insurance only’. On the recommendation of the District Health Officer it was decided to ask certain property owners to immediately abate the nuisance caused by insanitary premises. It was decided to hold a special meeting to consider complaints from members of the Fire Brigade. Various reports were dealt with.
