AUSTRALIA. I.W.W. FORGERS. WARDER BRUTALLY ATTACKED. (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z CABLE ASSN.] Sydney, Oct. 23. The trial has opened of five men arrested in connection with £5 note forgeries. Two pleaded guilty and were remanded for sentence. Four prisoners, two of whom -were convicted of note forgeries, attacked a warder at Tamworth Gaol and escaped. One subsequently surrendered, but the others are still at liberty. The warder is in hospital iii a critical condition. CANADA. GENEROUS CONTRIBUTION TO RED CROSS FUND. (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z CABLE ASSN. | (Received 24, 10.30 a.m.) London, Oct. 23. Ontario has sent the first donation of £250,000 to the British Red Cross Fund. It is expected the total will amount to £400,000 this year.
