THE ITALIAN FRONT.
PROGRESS ON THE CARSO. SHELLS FALLING IN TRIESTE, fr I A I’STR A LIAN A\’V N.Z. UAISTR Rome, Oct. 21. Military critics point out that the methods of the Italian offensive on the Carso are the same as the Franco-Brititish on the Somme. The Italian attacks will be maintained with the same steadj 7 methodical persistence. Owing to lack of reserves the Austrian forces on the Carso are diminishing with alarming rapidity. The lull in t-he attack merely affords a means for the Italians to advance their batteries two or three kilometers. The shells of the biggest Italian guns are now falling on the Austrian fortifications of Trieste. DISEASE RAMPANT. Rome, Oct. 21. A resident at Trieste writing to the “Secolo” states that since the aqueduct was cut serious epidemics have raged in the city. The drinking of well water is forbidden as it caused typhoid.
