WAR PERSONALS. Private Donald S. Currie, brother of Messrs A. D. Currie and R. Currie, of Napier, was admitted to hospital on October Istj suffering from a wound in the neck. Graham McConnell, son of Mr. J. W. McConnell, of Westshore, was wounded in action in France on October 3rd. Bombardier J. G. Burrell, formerly for seven years in the Napier Post Office has been killed in action. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs J. T. Burrell, of Palmerston North, and one of the first men to respond to his country’s call. Bombardier Burrell left with the Main Body. He saw service in Egypt ,right through Gallipoli inferno and then to France. He was twenty-nine years of age. Private Leslie Martin-Smith, of Hastings, who was first reported wounded, then reported a prisoner of war, is now an inmate of a London hospital, and cable advice received to-day by his father, Mr. Martin-Smith, states that his son is progressing satisfactorily. Rifleman George A. Pine, killed in action, was one of five brothers who are well known throughout the Dominion in connection with racing. Rifleman Pine enlisted with one of the enrly reinforcements, and saw considerable amount of fighting. The oldest brother, William Pine, a well-known trainer, enlisted recentIv. Rifleman Pine, like his brother, G J. Pine, was a jockey. James Pine, another brother, is a trainer at Ricrarton, where the father, William Pine. senr.. is living. Information has been received that Sergeant E. J. Carey, who for many years was secretary of the Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union, was wounded in action on 2nd October. Sergeant Carey left NeW Zealand with the 13th Reinforcement.

Mr. H. Johnston, of Waghorn street, Port Ahuriri, received advice to-dav that his only son,. Private George Johnston, previously renorted wounded has now died of his wounds. Private Johnston, who left with the 3rd Reinforcements, was 25 years of a etc. and was attached.to the clerical staff of the Napier Harbour Board for a considerable period prior to enlisting. He was a champion swimmer and was a prominent figure in the football field.
