[high commissioner's message.] (Received 15, 9.35 a.m.) London, June 14. On the heigts of the Meuse a violent enemy bombardment took place during the course of the night on our positions north of Thiaumont, a work in Vaux Wood, Chapitre, and south of Vaux Fort. There was no infantry attack, but intermittent artillery action on the left bank. Our infantry, using skis, made a surprise attack on a crest of the Vosges, and took some prisoners. THE FICHTINC IN FLANDERS. CANADIANS RECOVER LOST GROUND. [high commissioner’s message.] London, June 14. On Tuesday morning the Canadian troops successfully attacked south-east of Zillebeke (south-east of Ypres), our old position, which they captured on a total front of 1500 yards. Heavy losses were inflicted on the enemy, and three officers and 123 men were made prisoner. Our troops were well supported by artillery, and retain the ground gained, which is being consolidated. Heavy enemy bombardments were replied to effectively. Attempts by hostile infantry to counter-attack were frustrated by artillery fire. On fuesdav night our iroops successfully raided north-east of Ypr**s and south of Bois Grenier. At the latter a party of Australians entered the enemy’s trenches, causing the loss of ;t dozen killed and probably several others, also capturing six j>ris men. Two trench mortars were destroyed. The raiding party retired safely, the onlv casualties being one officer and one mm both slightly wounded.
The enemy put 300 shells into Marticourt. Our artillery bombarded enemy positions at La Boiselle.
