HAYWARD’S PICTURES, NAPIER

The programme to be screened at the Empire Theatre, Napier, to-night, will provide a treat for those who love the “movies.” It contains, among other attractions, an excellent series of Dudley Buxton’s cartoons. The “star” picture. “A Question of Courage” is a thrilling story. A soldier s widow and her three sons comprise a happy family. Thu mother bravely decides to give her three sons to her country, (in the first list she sees the names of her two eldest sons as having died in action. Her grief takes possession of her. She seeks out her youngest son, and tells him if he continues any i’ui ther she will shoot herself. At last she prevails upon him to desert. He is arrested and tried for cowardice. He refuses to give the reason for his desertion. At this point in tbi' trial his mother breaks in and tells her story, hut the law of the country aliens no excuses. He is orderd to be shot. The General who is present at tlie trial, feeling that the man is a brave man. interests himself on tin’ lad’s behalf and ho is given a chance to prove his valour. How he does it is most realistic and beautiful. There arc man.v other films, none being without interest.

PRINCESS THEATRE, HASTINGS. An exciting, as well as charming. “Nordisk” drama, entitled “The Candle and the Meth" is the leading feature sot (Jown <!H to-night's programme at the Prims'ss Theatre.
