FIRES.
GRANDSTAND BURNED. [pbkss association. —COPYRIGHT.] Melbourne, Sept. 22. A fire broke out in the main grandstand on the show ground on which there were over a thousand people. These were quickly cleared. Before the five miles distant fire brigade arrived the lira had spread to the exhibition portion. There was great excitement among the rnrge crowds. Owing to the poor water supply the fire was not suppressed until eighteen structures, including the industrial pavilion, and great quantities of valuable, exhibits, besides the grandstand, costing £7OOO, had been destroyed. The total damage by the fire is estimated at from £15,000 to £17,000.
