NAPIER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A committee meeting of the Napier Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday’ afternoon, the President (Mr. J. Snodgrass) in the chair. CORR ESPON DENCE. The British Imperial Council of Commerce lorwarded particulars regarding affiliation. —Consideration deferred. The Minister of Lands advised that inquiries were now being made regarding questions of title, etc., in connection with land around Lake YVaikaremoana, and that it had been decided to take practically all the forest land visible from the waters of the lake. — Received.

The Department of Agriculture advised that the suggestion to allow nuts and dried fruits direct entry at Napier was being considered, though no definite promise could be made in that connection. —This chamber desires to call special attention to nuts. The Christchurch and YVeliington Chambers of Commerce supported this chamber’s representations regarding the Daylight Saving Bill. —Received.

The Primo Minister declined to authorise the issue of workers’ tickets between Napier and Whakatu,’i*.s the circumstances did not warrant it.—Received.

The General Manager of Railways advised that instructions had been given for shunting to be avoided at intermediate stations when possible to obviate irregular running of trains between Napier and Hastings.—Received. The Wellington Chamber of Commerce suggest'd that a conference oi chambers should lie held at Wellington. —Agreed to. The South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce forwarded copy of a letter sent by them to the Minister of Agriculture regarding statistics relating to sheep, suggesting that figures’ should be available mucii earlier. — Received. The New Zealand executive of the Panama Exposition advised that New Zealand would forward its exhibits to the exhibtion. and that the date of the opening would not be altered because of the' war. —Received. GENERAL. The following new members were elected: —Messrs. A. L. Beattie (Eskdale), A. C. Matheson (Napier), RMeLeay (Port Ahiiriri), M. Murray and W. J. McGrath (Napier). THE PRESIDENT’S FAREWELL. At the conclusion of the ordinary business the President (Mr. J. Snodgrass) said he was leaving the district, and would he unable to be present at the next meeting. He therefore asked them for leave of absence, and desired to thank the members for their kind support during the year. Mr. J. H. Coleman: I wish to ask this chamber to place on record their full appreciation of the service's of our present chairman. (Applause). I think we agro" that he has carried out the duties of bis position during the year to our entire satisfaction, and we regret very much that he is leaving the town. He is a good man ol business, an estimable citizen in every way —his place' w ill Im very difficult to fill. And I wish to add: That the chamber wishes him real success, good health and long life in the n»w vocation time lie' has chosen. (Loud applause).
