HASTINGS BOROUGIFBY-ELECTION TO THE BURGESSES. IN response to a requisition presented to me signed by a large number of ratepayers, I have consented to allow myself to be nominated for the vacancy on the Borough Council as a candidate for vour suffrage at the forthcoming election, and if elected will do my best to protect and further jour interest in all parts cf the borough. lam out for sound progress and improvements, especially in regard to roads, footpaths, sewer extension and lighting, which, in my opinion, are of the most vital importance. I am also awake tn the urgent necessity of widening Caroline road. I am absolutely opposed to the new subdivision reading regulations which were recently adopted by the Council. I consider the class of construction demanded to be quite uncalled for in suburban areas, and if the regulations are persisted in, their imposition will recoil back to the working-man and persons with limited capital. I have considerable interests in Hastings ,and you can rely upon me to advance the progress of the town to the best of mj‘ ability. As I may not be personally known to some of the ratepayers, I may state that I have had a long experience as Borough Councillor. I was a member of the Dannevirke Council whilst large and important municipal works were in progress in that town, and only resigned my seat two years ago on removing to Hastings. 1 respectfully solicit your support at the ballot, and if elected 1 can assure you that jour confidence in me will not be misplaced.
