At the prize giving for field ambulance work, Lord Bingham said to the territorials that he considered national service necessary, but neither side in Parliament was able to bring it in, and any way the country wpuld not have it. It was therefore the duty of the territorials to maintain efficiency and provide a good framework for national service.

Major-General Lloyd declared that that if women gave their-backing the territorial force would be full to overflowing. He had never heard jibes, ridicule! or taunts levelled against the territorials. In numbers they were lacking, but he doubted whether a better second line existed in Europe.
