AN APPRECIATED SUB-LEADER

TO THE EDITOB Sir, —Permit me to thank you on behalf of the above society for your generous and seasonable sub-leader on Tuesday. You have hit upon the very phase which most aptly describes the reason for the success of the society. It is indeed due to the “little band of enthusiasts” (old and experienced players for the most part), who master their work in a month’s rehearsing, but who do not object to a three months’ session in order to give the younger members ample opportunity for perfecting themselves. A great many young players are enthusiastic at first, but grow “tired” after a season or two (we have had many instances of this in our society), but stjll the old enthusiasts stick to it” and year after year work and wait patiently while the conductor trains more raw re-’ cruits to fill the vacant chairs. May all our present players endeavour to follow their example, and thus assist in adding still further lustre to the society’s work. —I am. etc.. PERCY W. TOMBS.
