HASTINGS BY-ELECTION.

Mr. W. White the Labour candidate for Jl.-iMina.i by-election, addressed a meet mg ot electors in the Borough Cxincil Chambers last « veiling. We have been asked to correct a wrong impression alleged to h«commonly Isold, that more than one member is to be it turned at th election next Monday. The election is to fill the vacancy caused by t!u selection of Mr. M ■ Hart as Mayor of Hastings, and consequently onlv one now member is-required. The electors are given a varied dime■-. and it is for tliem to say which oi the candidates (Missis. Fumer. H. Sorenson. W. Lane. .J. A. Gt-orgc. and W. Whitt ) is the best fitttd to watch their interests at the e-mm-i! table. THE ROLL PROBLEM. In view of the decision given Ay Mr. S. E. McCarthy. It is undestood that the borough solicitor’s opinion has been taken on the matter anti the question will be brought forward at- the meeting i f the Bcough Council this evening.
