RIFLE-SHOOTING.

COLEMAN SHIELD. WON BY B COMPANY. The competition for the Coleman shield and champion belt was held at the Tutaekuri range yesterday afternoon under somewhat unfavourable conditions. A strong left wind, varying from 3 to 7 degrees at 300 vards, and 6to 13 degrees at 500 vards, proved rather disconcerting to many of the younger shots. Owing to tiie shortness of tune only two ranges were fired, although it hau been intended that the. tea’.us should lire at 300, 500 and 600 yards?. The competition resulted in a win for B Company (Hastings) by the narrow margin of two points. further distinction was brought upon the Hastings competitors by LanceCorp. Batt, of “B” CornTiany, winning the champion belt while Lieut. Neilson of E Company and Sergeant Guthrie of B Company came second and third respectively. The contest between "B” Company and the machine gun section v n<-. a keen one. At 300 yards B Cmnpaiiy had a lead of 13 points. At 500 yards it was apparent that i sit- machine gun section were making i. big bid to rmm-r their ground. 'This thev came very near to do;ngheatmg ' B" Company at this range hv 11 points.
