RIGBY. S£ VEN - A-SIDE TOU RN A MEN T AT NAPIER. A seven-a-side Rugby football tournament was conducted by the Napier Sub-union on the Recreation Ground yesterday afternoon find proved in every way a success, ihe day was fine, and induced a large number of people to ail end and watch the proceedings. Though the competition was confined to the second and third graue teams yet the standard of play was high and there were some very tough and exciting contests. As a result of the lengthiness of some of the games it was impossible to conclude the tournament, and it will be necessary for the semifinals and finals to be played at a later date. Throughout- the afternoon the Wellington Central Mission’s Boys’ Band rendered a programme of music which considerably enlivened the afternoon’s outing. The referees of the combined Napier and Hastings unions attended in full force .and capably coni roiled the various games, results of which are as under: — SECOND GRADE. First Round.
Pirates Saturday A won by default from Ahuriri-Athletie. Marist Old Boys defeated Celtic by 8 points to nil. High School Old Boys won by default from Pirates Wednesday. Rovers-Kautuki defeated Hastings Wednesday by default. ' Second Round. Rovers-Kautuki A C-i) defeated Pirates Saturday A (0). Celtic B defeated Marist Old Boys by 3 points to nil. Rovers-Kautuki B defeated High School Old Boys by 3 points to nil. THIRD GRADE. First Round. Celtic A (3) v. Star B (nil). High School (6) v. Marist Old Boys (nil). Pirates Saturday A (3) v. RoversKautuki B (nil). Wellington Boys Mission Band (3) v. Rovers-Kautuki B (nil). Pirates Saturday B (5) v. RoversKautuki A (nil). Second Round. Celtic A (1 point, a force down) defeated Ahuriri-Athletie (nil). High School (5) v. Celtic B (nil). Star A (3) v. Boys Band (nil). Pirates Saturday B (6) v. Pirates Saturday A (nil). NAPIER (8) v. HASTINGS <<»). A representative match* Napier seniors, v. Hastings was played the Heretaunga Grounds, Hasting-, yesterday. Napier winning by 8 points to nil. Mr. W. Horne was referee. TARANAKI (26) v. WANGANUI (5). Wanganui, June 3. The first Rugby representative match was played here to day between Wanganui and Taranaki. Taranaki won by 26 (tries by Loveridge (5) and Taylor (1). who alsoi landed a penalty goal) to Wanganui’s 5 (R. Leahy a try convert! d by Faber). The Taranaki backs gave a fine exhibition. There were nearly 3000 present.
