WAIPUKURAU.
[own correspondent.] Yesterday was observed as a close holiday here. In the morning a parade was held at the Town Hall when twenty-four senior cadets and twenty-three’ territorials with three officers attended after giving three hearty cheers for the King and saluting the flag the men were dismissed. In the evening a large military ball was held. It was one of the most successful dances ever held in M’aipukurau and much of the credit is due to the energetic manner in which the ladies’ committee worked. During the evening a presentation was made to Sergeant-Major Rogers by the members of G Company, which took the form of an enlarged photograph of the members of the company. The presentation was made by Lieut, Merton, who in a neat speech eulogised Sergeant Major Rodger for the way he had worked for the good of his company, and spoke ' f the respect in which he was held by the members. Extras were played by Mrs. von Dadelszen, Miss God fray, Mr. J. Richardson and Mr. J. Bailey. A team of Association football players journeyed from Hastings and defeated the local players by £ goals to 1. The plat - was exciting at times, but the local players have not yet struck their best form.
